“A NIGHT AT THE THEATRE’ TO BE PRESENTED MAY 16 AT PHS
“A Night at the Theatre” will be presented May 16 showcasing some 115 Palacios High School speech and drama students. The production will feature two plays and four music video dance routines. The event is free and begins at 7 p.m. The entire night will be a two hour event with a ten minute intermission.
“This is the largest performance we have put on in the seven years I have been here. Not only are all theatre students performing but also three speech classes,” Peggy Charlton said.
The four music videos will be showcasing the music of Michael Jackson. The opening number will be presented by the fifth period theatre class, comprised of the students who won district one act play and advanced to area.
“These students will be presenting the famous video “Thriller” which was the pioneer of all music videos. We will have some cool special effects comprised of fog, lights, neat costumes, and even cooler dance moves,” Charlton said.
Immediately following this number will be a dance routine to “Beat It” by the 22 second period speech students.
The first play will then be presented. “Competition Piece” by John Wells will be featured by the fourth period theatre class. The play focuses on three separate and distinctly different groups of high school theatre students. These groups, “preppies” , “arties” and “metalheads” show the frustrations of participating in a high school one act play competition.
Following this play, two more music videos will be presented. The seventh period speech class will dance to a compilation of Michael Jackson hits and “What is Love?”. Following this number will be the sixth period speech class dancing to the famous number “Billie Jean.”
The finale of the night will be the play “Captain Bree, Scourge of the Sea” by Martin A. Follose. It will be presented by the first period theatre class.
“I don’t think you will find this bargain price for entertainment anywhere. The students are very entertaining, the acting is good, the music is fantastic. Since it’s free, I think you are getting a great deal,” Charlton said. “I hope everyone will come and enjoy the night and support the Fine Arts at Palacios High School.”
