IN A solemn tribute to a fallen hero, Matagorda Countians raised American flags as they lined the road from Bay City to Rose Lawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck on Friday as the funeral procession for Army Cpl. David P. McCormick passed by. A native of Bay City, the 26-year old McCormick became the county’s first solider to die in the war in Iraq when he was killed near Baghdad on April 28. He was the son of Anna June Staten McCormick and Leo William McCormick, Jr. (Beacon Photo by Nick West)
