Had an e-mail from Chris Harvey chasing whereabouts of Annie Butcher who was an Ag. Trainee at Ron & Carolyn Kubecka's. Chris I've found her but don't know your e-mail address. You mat not have recognised my name as I am now married and are referred to as Kate but was always known as Katrina when I was staying with Gene and Nancy Kubecka in Bay City. I also spent some time at the Palacios Vet Clinic. I love keeping in touch with the folk of Palacios.

Hello Palacios!!!!!!!!!!!
Its me again, Marcus Sanchez!!! I know, I know its been a while since I have written the Beacon online. You know I am getting real tired of everyone putting down Palacios. Palacios is a great place where not only I, but a lot of great people grew up. The people that put it down just don't know how to have a good time there. We made the most out of our days there and I wish everyone had the same opportunities that we did. (Hey Class of '97!!!!!!!) N-E-Ways, I have been real busy here in the city working and going to school. I don't have time to paty n-e-more. . .NOT!!!!!!!!!!!! The B.O.L has given me the opportunity to keep up with old classmates. (Thanks Nick!!!!) I get new e-mails everyday and I would like to see them continue to come. Man I miss high school. Well n-e-ways, I guess I am going to go now. Don't forget class of '97, keep it real and don't forget to e-mail me. Once agin, keep up the good work Nick!!!! You are doing a great job!!!!! See Ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in Katy and work in Alief. My students are researching lighthouses and I understand that there is a lighthouse at Matagorda Island. I really enjoyed reading the Beacon Online. I lived in Palacios during the late 40's and 50's. I still have family living there (Hi Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Mickey and Jamie and Haley and boys) I am now teaching at Katy ISD. It was wonderful to read through the guestbook and see many friends and acquaintances have written. Lately, every time I go to Palacios I visit the cemetary and it seems like the play "Our Town". I just e-mailed Ann Cooper, Carla Fay Leadford, and Earlene Dickens. Has anyone heard from Donna Rice?

Hi. We lived in Palacios from 1977-1981. My husband was with DPS as a Trooper (he's now a Sgt. with DPS in Bryan/CS. I frequently read the Palacios Beacon Online. It is one of the best small town onlines. I was happy to see a picture of Mary King with Rainbow Day Care. Our older kids Eric(now 25) and Jennifer (now 19) went to her daycare. It was the best daycare program we ever experienced. I was wondering if anyone in Palacios knew the whereabouts of Patsy & Nubbin Chamblee. Their daughter JoAnn babysat for us 20 years ago. If so, drop me an e-mail. Keep up the good work Beacon.

I have truly enjoyed the online service you have set up especially for those who no longer reside in Palacios. I would like to comment that your paper is getting bigger every week which tells me that Palacios must be growing tremendously.

I would like to also say Hi ! to a very dear friend Sister Gloria from Church Of God Of Propecy. I hope things are well with you and if by chance you might know where I might be able to contact our past business associate in San Antonio let me know I'd greatly appreciate it I think of her often and how she is doing.

To the seniors who graduated the class of 1972 I would love to hear from you. I was known then as Carolyn McCrory.

My hat goes off to Palacios and it's rapid growth. Here’s To Palacios !!!

I am very impressed by this on-line service. This is the quality and service one would expect from a much larger community. You and the city should be very proud of this offering. It is a great service to us expatriates of Palacios and a great way to stay in touch and tuned-in to the goings-on. I have been away from Palacios for almost 35 years, but still have many great memories of school days and many great friends. It never often enough to get back to visit. I hope that maybe some of my old classmates will see this communication and we can re-establish contact. Thanks for this anchor to home.

Very pretty pictures of the bay. Is there anyone around who graduated in 1971 or 1972?
Would like to hear from someone. Was happy to see Palacios girls do so well at the rodeo and fair. About time Palacios was recognized.
How come there was not much publicity regarding the Trailriders? Nothing in the tribune. They are still an important part of Matagorda County history are they not?
That is county news. Thanks.

As a child I grew up hearing stories from my father,Tiodoro Gallegos. He had lived in Palacios as a very young child. The story also told of how his father( Andres Gallegos) had up and left this town towing him in hand. He recalled being about 5 years old. His mother Elvira Vasquez Gallego did not come on this trip. My dad considered himself basically kidnapped by his father. He was never to see his mother again. This all would have happened In the early 1920's.I would like to see if anyone who may have heard a story simular to this one, or may have some insight on Elvira Vasquez Gallegos to E-mail me. She may have lived out her life there in Palacios. There may have been other sibblings either from this marriage or another marriage after all this happened.

This is a really nice website. I went to school in Palacios from 1947-1951 and moved to Corpus. Then returned while I went to Wharton JR. College 1955-56 and lived their again in 1959-62. I visited Palacios last week and played golf with some old friends. Ithink the thing that draws us back to Palacios is the great fun we had with our friends growing up there. I signed the guest book to say hello to many old friends that live there and those that have moved away...Many that I saw through the years around the Houston area.

I printed several pages from your website and took them to her. She got a kick out of seeing her old hometown but didn't know anything about the fire or the family living there. Would appreciate any information regarding my grandmother Mrs. Ruby Redmon, their farm or the family mentioned, please write me. Hey what's up? I was thinking about Palacios and decided to look it up on the trusty internet. I was supposed to graduate from PHS in 1996 but moved halfway through my senior year but I still consider it my alma mater (think I spelled that right) Well I've been going to college at Cameron University studying communications (radio broadcasting) and have been working at a classical station KCCU 89.3 for a year making commercials and promos. anybody that remembers me drop me a line =)

This guest book is great. I have already found several of my running buddies on here. Also found a cousin, Joe Dale. Sorry I missed the big reunion, but Mertzon is way, way out here in w.Texas. Did visit with Gloria Walter prior to her death and attended the funeral. Both sons & families live here-that means 5 grandchildren here!!!! Mama-Josephine Leadford lives with us and she is doing well. Milton Tyler-you older folks should remember him-is a chaplain at one of the hospitals in San Angelo. Mike Martindale lives there also. I'm looking forward to hearing from some of the class of "65".

Brenda Garza Seams is doing fine in San Antonio. She is a school teacher and recieved teacher of the year. She has two boys 10 and 7. My brother Ray Thomas (Tommy)
has been stationed in San Antonio for the first time since basic training,He is the base commander of support services at Lackland AFB with his wife of over 20 years
Becky. I am very proud of him. He will be leaving soon, we all hope he will settle down here in good ole SA so we can see him more. They bought a lot in FairOaks. He is a Colonel. My brother Ernest Garza is an attorney in Laredo,Texas with his wife Mary Lou Castillo who is also an attorny for the attorney generals office. HIs oldest daughter Krystal is now attending law school in Houston. He has two small children "little Ern" Ernesto and Rebecca.
Sylvia has an awesome job for a architecual
firm, she is the best at her job.
My older sister Mary Alice is also a school teacher and is the very best. I am prejudice but I think she is the best teacher in the world, she is a loving beautiful woman. Mom Josephine is doing great she has so much fun on all our vacations she is only limited by her arthritis but my Mom is a trooper is can run rings around all of us. My precious daddy is in heaven watching over all of us.
I have been with the federal government at the VA hospital for 25 years. Every time I find some one from Palacios there I try to look them up and help them out. I recently had to take medical disability retirement with workmen comp. It still been very hard on me, i am used to working. I am very involved with my church and the youth and my specialy HIV-Aids care. My daughter Jessica is a sophmore at my two brothers alma mater St.Mary's University, she started in pre -med but who knows what she'll do, I told she needs to enjoy what she'll be doing all her life. She my most precious gift from God and as a prejudice mother I think, beautiful inside and out. I guess I will sign off for now. Donny Schroeder it so good to hear from you I think of you often and pray you and your son are doing fine.Adios Amigos.

I was surfing the net this morning and ran across your site and I must say, it is one of the better
newspaper sites I have seen. I bookmarked the site so I can come back and see some of the
happenings down there. My Dad was born and reared there and my Aunt Fern Harvey and
her "kids" still live on the Tres Palacios River. We always enjoyed visiting, but don't get down
there much any more.

Class of 57.....couldn't been a more exciting time!!! Still chat with Laverne Bowers, James Baldwin, Patsy Williams; also heard from Sissy and Dinky. Did we have fun or what??? Lots of classmates have been in the shop....saw Glenda Reneau the other day and the entire Seniors Citizen bus drove up to our antique shop and there to my surprise was Mrs. Friery....I lived in Fla. 17 years and was neat to see Joe Sartain is still there, my brother's best friend from high school.. I still get shrimp from Palacios, the shrimpers come to our business monthly. Coach Coien lives down the road and Johnny Hienaman lives around the conner. Gwen Smith is a block away and I still miss Palacios....Thanks for the Guestbook!

Hi Class of 1960. Looking forward to reunion this year. Anybody have any news about it? Was some mention about revisting the Mayan Dude Ranch, our old Senior Trip site. I and my five siblings lived on Welch Street, went to the Baptist Church across the street. W.C. Jackson, our Dad, was mayor early seventies. Grace, our Mom, lived up to her name. You can take the kid out of Palacios, but you can't take Palacios out of the kid.
